Radford Police arrest wanted man charged with kidnapping, assault following overnight search

He is wanted on six warrants

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford City Police Department arrested a wanted Tazewell County man who was wanted on six warrants early Thursday morning.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a call about a wanted person out of Richlands, leading to a search in the area surrounding Rock Road.

Authorities said 45-year-old Jason Edward Matney was taken into custody after an overnight search.

According to New River Valley Regional Jail, Matney was wanted for brandishing or pointing a firearm, assault with a firearm used in the commission of a felony, weapons convicted as a felon, conspiracy to kidnap/abduct by force without justification, kidnapping/abducting by force without justification and simple assault.

Police said he is currently being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
