Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 20, and if you’re wondering what’s closed and what will still be open, we’ve got you covered!
While most government offices, schools and city-operated facilities, like the public library and City Hall, will be closed, a majority of standard grocery stores, fast food chains and restaurants will still be open.

What will be closed?
- All DMV offices, the DMV Direct call center and social media customer service will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- Most banks will be closed, including branches of Capital One, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PNC, Chase, Truist, and CitiBank, among others, according to USA Today; however, you should still be able to access their ATMs and online services in the meantime
- A majority of schools and public libraries will be closed in our region as well
- U.S. stock exchanges and bond markets
- U.S. Postal Service post offices and mail will not be delivered
- All nonessential federal government offices and most state government offices

What about trash collection?
- Botetourt County:
- Danville: No change/trash and yard waste collected on holiday
- Lynchburg: No disruption in trash collection for this week.
- Radford: Trash will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 21; please have trash ready by 7:30 a.m.
- Roanoke City: Trash, bulk, brush and B Week recycling will be on a one-day delay for the week of January 20-24.
- Roanoke County: Collection one day late all week
- Salem: Trash will be collected on Jan. 21
