Roanoke Police arrest suspect in fatal hit-and-run crash, victim identified

The Roanoke Police Department has identified the victim as 59-year-old Gregory Sheffiled of Roanoke.

UPDATE

The Roanoke Police Department has arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 59-year-old man.

Brian Angelo Campbell, 59, of Vinton, was arrested early Wednesday and charged with felony hit-and-run and reckless driving. Authorities said investigators identified the suspect with the help of Flock technology.

The name of the victim will be released once his family has been notified.

A man died after a hit-and-run crash involving a moped and a pickup truck late Tuesday night in Roanoke, according to the Roanoke Police Department. Authorities say the truck left the scene.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Orange Avenue Northeast shortly before midnight, where they found the moped driver with serious injuries. Police said the man died at the scene.

At this time, westbound Orange Avenue is closed between 13th Street and Hollins Road Northeast. The roadway is expected to reopen by the morning rush hour.
