WATCH: Congress holds joint session to count Electoral College votes No description found
WASHINGTON – UPDATE: Congress plans to resume at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
UPDATE: Congress is in recess as the Capitol is currently on lockdown .
Congress will meet Wednesday afternoon to count the Electoral College votes in each state.
During this session, members of Congress will open sealed certificates, brought into the chamber in special mahogany boxes, from each state that have a record of their Electoral College votes.

Vice President Mike Pence, president of the Senate, will preside over the session and declare the winner.
The AP reports lawmakers will confirm the Electoral vote won by Joe Biden during this joint session.
The session is set to begin at 1 p.m.
