Virginia Tech falls to Maryland in the Pinstripe Bowl, 54-10

The Hokies’ 2021 season finishes at 6-7.

NEW YORK – Terps quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa threw touchdown passes of 70 and 32 yards to Darryl Jones, and Maryland routed Virginia Tech 54-10 in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. Tarheep Still returned a punt 92 yards for a touchdown for the Terps. Tagovailoa is the younger brother of Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa. He was named the game’s MVP, finishing with 265 yards passing. His 26 touchdown passes this season tied the Maryland single-season record set by Scott Milanovich in 1983.

The Hokies were led offensively by Connor Blumrick who completed 9 of 15 passes for 110 yards, and 14 carries for 23 yards including one rushing touchdown in the first half. Virginia Tech finished with its second straight losing season and has not won a bowl game since 2016. The Hokies’ season ends at 6-7. Interim head coach JC Price will return to his defensive line coaching duties and new head Coach Brent Pry will take the reins of the Hokies program moving forward.
