2ND AMENDMENT

New Jersey lawmakers pass gun carry legislation after ruling

New Jersey lawmakers gave final approval Monday to legislation overhauling rules to get a firearm carry permit after this summer's U.S. Supreme Court ruling expanded gun rights. The Democrat-led Senate passed the measure in what is scheduled to be the last voting session of the year, sending the legislation to Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy. In an emailed statement, Murphy spokesperon Tyler Jones said the governor would “swiftly” sign the bill.

Overturning California's assault weapon ban was wrong. But it may be on solid legal ground

Judge Roger Benitez's opinion, although it began with a nutty comparison of a Swiss Army knife to an AR-15, may be on solid ground concerning a basic point, columnist George Skelton writes.

In comparing an AR-15 to a Swiss Army knife, Judge Benitez is wrong on constitutional law and fails on common sense.

Roanoke Valley Gun Show attracts 2nd Amendment supporters to Berglund Center

ROANOKE, Va. – The Berglund Center became a place to celebrate and shop in support of the 2nd Amendment on Saturday, and COVID-19 may have made the right to bear arms even more attractive for some. People lined up across the Berglund complex Saturday morning for tickets to the Roanoke Valley Gun Show. Event organizer Annette Elliott said the show faces a unique challenge this year for another reason. “Guns are in short supply now, manufacturers are backed up until January 2021 is what I’m understanding,” Elliott said. They’re under the same challenge at the manufacturing level because of COVID.”The Roanoke Valley Gun Show continues through the weekend.

Supreme Court declines to make 2nd Amendment ruling in New York gun case

A 2nd Amendment challenge to a New York City gun ordinance fizzled in the Supreme Court on Monday, but conservative justices looked poised to expand gun rights in future cases. Its only the latest disappointment for 2nd Amendment advocates. The city violated petitioners 2nd Amendment right, and we should so hold, Alito wrote in New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn. The court should address that issue soon, perhaps in one of the several 2nd Amendment cases with petitions for certiorari now pending before the court, he said. As an appeals court judge, Kavanaugh wrote a dissent arguing that Washingtons ban on semiautomatic rifles violated the 2nd Amendment.
