Super Bowl ads aim to comfort and connect

NEW YORK – Super Bowl ads each year offer a snapshot of the American psyche. The chance to break into the psyche and (virtual) watercooler talk of an estimated 100 million viewers who will be watching the CBS broadcast of Super Bowl LV on Sunday. This year’s Super Bowl will showcase more than 20 first-time advertisers — more than double the 8 from last year if you exclude campaign ads, according to a tally by research firm iSpot. It’s a bellwether when a brand can afford the estimated $5.5 million cost-of-entry for a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl. In stark contrast to last year's Super Bowl, which featured campaign ads from both Donald Trump and Michael Bloomberg, politics is out of sight this year.

Rape charges denied by lawyer for '70s Show' actor Masterson

Attorney Tom Mesereau entered the plea for the 44-year-old actor, who was not in court, to three charges of rape by force or fear. Prosecutors allege that he raped a 23-year-old woman sometime in 2001, a 28-year-old woman in April of 2003, and a 23-year-old woman between October and December of 2003, all at his Hollywood Hills home. Defense lawyer Tom Mesereau entered the plea for Masterson, who was not present in court, to three charges of rape by force or fear in Los Angeles County Superior Court. All of the alleged rapes happened at his Hollywood Hills home. The alleged rapes happened at the height of Masterson’s fame as he starred as Steven Hyde on Fox TV's retro sitcom “That ’70s Show” from 1998 to 2006 alongside Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Topher Grace.

'Two and a Half Men' star Conchata Ferrell dies at 77

Actor Masterson's lawyer denies and denounces rape charges

Despite dozens of investigations, most have led to no charges based on lack of evidence or too much time passing. He was removed from the Netflix show “The Ranch” in 2017 over the allegations that would eventually lead to the charges.

The movement asks people to put up a message highlighting what they called the damage Facebook does but otherwise refrain from posting on Instagram for a day. With 188 million followers, Kardashian West is one of the most influential people on Instagram and support from her and other big names for the boycott saw Facebook shares slide in aftermarket trading late Tuesday.

'Hollywood Ripper' Found Guilty of Murders

Jurors have found the man known as the "Hollywood Ripper" guilty of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of two women, as well as guilty of premeditated attempted murder in the attempted killing of another. Michael Gargiulo, 43, showed zero emotion when the guilty verdicts came in Thursday afternoon in a trial that riveted Los Angeles. On Feb. 22, 2001, Gargiulo killed Ashley Ellerin, 22, in her Hollywood home. He was found guilty of killing 32-year-old Maria Bruno in 2005 and attempting to kill Michelle Murphy in 2008. 'Hollywood Ripper' found guilty of 2 counts of murder

Gargiulo was convicted Aug. 15, 2019, on(CNN) - A California jury found Michael Gargiulo, aka the "Hollywood Ripper," guilty Thursday of the murders of two women and the attempted murder of another. The trial surrounding what became known as Hollywood Ripper killings began in Los Angeles in May, as lawyers for the prosecution and the defense framed their arguments. The 43-year-old was charged with the murders of Ashley Ellerin and Maria Bruno, in addition to the attempted murder of Michelle Murphy in 2008. Defense attorney Daniel Nardoni argued prosecutors had no evidence to link Gargiulo to Ellerin's murder. Gargiulo was also linked to the murder of Bruno, whose ex-husband discovered her mutilated body in 2005, KABC said.
