DANNY VITALE

Half the players who opted out last year no longer with team

Less than half of the 67 NFL players who opted out of the 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic are still with the same team as training camps kicked off for the 2021 season.

66 players opt out of NFL season due to coronavirus pandemic

A total of 66 players have opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to the coronavirus pandemic, nearly half of them linemen. Players with a medical opt out will receive a $350,000 stipend, whole those voluntarily opting out receive $150,000 as an advance against future salaries. No team has come close to New England in losing players for the upcoming season, which begins Sept. 10 with Houston at Super Bowl champion Kansas City. Those are not easy decisions to make as a player, especially when you love the game," said Broncos safety Justin Simmons, who will play this season. And Ive had a lot of difficult conversations with my wife and, yeah, its not ever going to be easy.

NFL training camps opening with eye on baseball, babysitting

Brady and Brees aren't the B words dominating the opening of NFL training camps. And weve got some good guys on the team I think that can help get that message through to them. The biggest news from NFL teams Tuesday dealt with opt-outs. The Cowboys placed defensive tackle Dontari Poe and defensive end Tyrone Crawford on the physically unable to perform list. Atlanta placed rookie safety Jaylinn Hawkins on the teams reserve/COVID-19 list hours after coach Dan Quinn said all rookies had negative tests. Hawkins, a fourth-round pick from Cal, could have tested negative and placed on the list after exposure to the coronavirus.
