New this week: 'Pam & Tommy,' Olympics and the doc 'Torn'

This weekโ€™s new entertainment releases include an album from pop singer-songwriter Mitski, the opening ceremonies of the winter Olympics from Beijing and the documentary โ€œTornโ€ about the aftermath of a climbing tragedy.

'Nomadland' wins PGA Award, cementing front-runner status

This image released by Searchlight Pictures shows Frances McDormand, left, and and David Strathairn in a scene from the film "Nomadland." (Searchlight Pictures via AP)NEW YORK โ€“ Chloรฉ Zhao's โ€œNomadland" cemented its Oscar front-runner status Wednesday, winning the top award at the 32nd annual Producers Guild of America Awards. But if any film could claim that mantle, it's โ€œNomadland,โ€ winner of the Golden Globe best picture award for drama. The PGA Awards are watched especially closely as an Oscar bellwether. The producers use the same preferential ballot as the film academy, and their best-picture fields often nearly mirror each other.

New this week: 'Nomadland,' 'Kenan' and Andra Day music

This image released by NBC shows, from left, Dani Lane as Aubrey, Kenan Thompson as Kenan, and Dannah Lane as Birdie in a scene from the comedy series, "Kenan," premiering on Feb. 16. (Casey Durkin/NBC via AP)Hereโ€™s a collection curated by The Associated Pressโ€™ entertainment journalists of whatโ€™s arriving on TV, streaming services and music platforms this week. The album has 13 tracks including โ€œTigress & Tweed,โ€ an original Day wrote with veteran singer-producer Raphael Saadiq. Adโ€” โ€œSaturday Night Liveโ€ cast member Kenan Thompson, who two decades ago co-starred in โ€œKenan and Kel,โ€ is headlining his own sitcom. It details the African American churchโ€™s history, from enslavement to emancipation, Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights movement to today.

A unique recipe for healing: Bill Murray and a biblical text

Murray is set to play Job in a biblical reading designed to spark meaningful conversations across spiritual and political divides. The cast also included Matthew Starr, mayor of the Knox County town of Mount Vernon, who will play Jobโ€™s accuser. Knox County, a largely rural community of about 62,000 residents including a medium-size Amish population, lies about an hour east of the state capital, Columbus. An exception is Kenyon College, a small liberal arts school perched on a hill a few miles outside Mount Vernon. Theater of War held its first Job reading in Joplin, Missouri, a year after a tornado killed more than 160 people there in 2011.
