The United States' hopes of winning a first Olympic gold medal in women's volleyball took a hit on Saturday when they lost ace spiker Jordan Thompson to injury in a straight sets defeat by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) team.

Jordan Thompson, who was having a breakout Olympics the Team USA's women's volleyball team in Tokyo, rolled her right ankle and exited Saturday's match against the ROC.

The Golden Eagles won a conference championship, regional championship, and finished as the VHSL 3A state runner up this past season. "I didn't start my freshman, sophomore, or junior year-- I finally started my senior year at Staunton River it was a blessing to be able to start. I worked hard all summer long to finally get where I'm at now," explains Terrance Drew.
