A limited field of 33,000 runners will jog off the Verrazzano Bridge and wind its way toward Central Park on Sunday as the New York City Marathon returns for its 50th edition after being wiped out in 2020 by the coronavirus pandemic.

Guye Adola of Ethiopia has won the Berlin Marathon.

Track and field Day 10 includes the men's marathon.

Kosgei topped her London victory last year by winning the Chicago Marathon in a world record time of 2 hours, 14 minutes, 4 seconds. The London Marathon has been reduced to elite runners only and will have no spectators because of the pandemic. Tokyo was the only other World Marathon Major to be held in 2020 after Boston, Berlin, Chicago and New York all canceled.
