Weather service: 8 tornadoes hit Alabama, killing at least 5

In the city of Pelham, James Dunaway said he initially ignored the tornado warning when it came over his phone. โThinking of everyone in Alabama and all of those impacted by the severe weather across the South tonight. Kay Ivey issued an emergency declaration for 46 counties as the severe weather approached, and officials opened shelters in and around Birmingham. Industry analysts have pointed to nondairy milks as a marker for the potential success of meat alternatives from Impossible, Beyond Meat and other companies. The popularity of soy milk and other dairy-free alternatives has helped lead to the decline of cow milk consumption in the U.S. And Impossible CEO Pat Brown told journalists on a Zoom call, with a background of the Amazon rainforest burning, that he hates the taste of soy milk.

American plant-based meat company Impossible Foods Inc. said Thursday it is awaiting regulatory approval to enter the China market, while rivals such as Beyond Meat have pushed forward with plans to set up production in China despite edgy relations between Beijing and Washington. Nestle has said it is expanding a plant-based products factory in the northeastern city of Tianjin. However, since most plant-based meat products often cost more, breaking into the Chinese market could be challenging.
