Law enforcement agencies across the commonwealth continued their annual Torch Run, raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics Virginia on Wednesday.

A Roanoke man has been arrested and charged after robbing a business, according to Salem Police.

SALEM, Va. – A 30-year-old man is behind bars and getting a mental health evaluation after Salem Police said he set a fire inside a hotel room during a domestic dispute with his mom. When officers got on the scene, the woman told them that her son had locked himself in a hotel room and was destroying property. Police made contact but said Matthew A. Welch refused to open the door and began setting fire to items inside. Salem Fire and EMS responded to the hotel and put out the fire. The Fire Marshal estimated $2,000 worth of damage inside the hotel room.

SALEM, VA. - UPDATEAfter a shooting early Wednesday morning in Salem, police say they believe that this and other similar incidents are all linked to one duplex. Earlier this month, neighbors one street over on Dalewood Avenue say shots were fired at their home overnight. According to the Salem Police Department, officers have been working with the current property owner over the past year to address these ongoing incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 540-375-3083. Neighbors on scene say they witnessed a car drive by firing a half a dozen shots at a house before speeding away.
