The PPP offered loans up to $10 million to companies with fewer than 500 employees. The most appealing aspect of the program: possible loan forgiveness if most of the money was spent on workers. But when the loans were first proposed, lawmakers described them as a rescue for small businesses and their employees. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin soon said the government would audit loans above $2 million, though some experts have their doubts. Aliera Companies, a private equity firm specializing in healthcare, got a $5 million to $10 million loan.
Kohl's, Macy's turn to pop-up shops and Instagram-worthy displays to try to win the holidays
Both of these retailers know the 2019 holiday season won't be an easy one to win. And so Kohl's and Macy's, among other retailers, hope to offer consumers something in their bricks-and-mortar stores they can't find online. "We have a lot of experimentation [going on]," Kohl's CEO Michelle Gass said during an interview on Wednesday at a press event held at Kohl's new pop-up shop. This also marks the first holiday season where Kohl's will be accepting Amazon returns at all of its more than 1,150 U.S. shops. In 2018, Macy's bought what at the time was one store in New York, which curated merchandise around rotating themes.
