Tractor-trailer stuck in median on I-81S in Roanoke backs up traffic

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A tractor trailer became stuck in the median of Interstate 81 south Thursday afternoon.

It happened near mile marker 130.

Virginia State Police said the truck was carrying automotive products. Crews were working to move the truck back onto the road around 4 p.m. If it could not be removed from the median without closing all lanes of traffic, the removal would be rescheduled to 6 p.m.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) traffic website, 511Virginia.org, shows the tractor trailer upright, but completely in the grass of the median.Traffic was beginning to back up, as drivers were restricted to one lane.

On I-81 at mile marker 129.8 in the County of Montgomery, motorists can expect major delays due to a tractor trailer accident. The south left shoulder and left lane are closed. Traffic backups are approximately 3.0 miles.
