Tasty Tuesday: Wing Boss continues to *drum* up business in the Roanoke Valley

8 years of wings, burgers and now subs/new fried desserts

ROANOKE, Va. – It all started with a DoorDash order that never came to my apartment a few weeks ago. The customer service and the flavors that followed immediately turned me onto a place I should’ve tried years ago.

Wing Boss in Roanoke does not just ‘wing it.’ After all, it’s celebrating eight years of doing business in the Valley.

Simply put by owner, Jody Draper, “Everybody loves wings.”

That’s especially the case now that football season is here.

Top sauces that shine on the surface of each flat or drum include “Buffalo and honey barbeque, but you have the Daytona. That’s a sweet and spicy, which is really good.”

I’ll give a personal nod to the Daytona, as it did not fall flat of expectations.

The puns are over, but the challenge is always there for Draper.

“I like people to challenge me. They come and say, ‘Can you do this?’ If I’ve got the ingredients, I’ll try to make the sauce for them.”

Don’t just hold the crew to wings and sauces. They do more than just that.

“We’ve added the fish bites.”

Those are either regular or seasoned with Cajun spices.

“We’ve added subs to the menu.”

You can get a classic Philly or Italian, with portions that are big enough for leftovers too.

You can also go with the Boss Burger - topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, grilled bacon and whatever wing sauce you’d like.

More deep-fried goodness comes in the form of the funnel fries or a new addition - the beignet donuts.

For Draper, a Roanoke native, giving back to the community is a big part of what he does. Recently, he put money toward uniforms for a youth baseball team.

After these past eight years, he says, “We’ve become family and friends with our customers.”

With another slate of college and NFL games on the way this week, you can order online from Wing Boss!
