BEDFORD CO. (WSLS 10) -- A Bedford County Circuit Court judge has granted a temporary injunction in the fight to keep Sweet Briar College from closing.

The injunction is for 60 days.

The judge's decision means money that has been donated to Sweet Briar cannot be used by the school to go towards its closure.

Today during the hearing, Sweet Briar attorney Calvin Fowler admitted the school has already used a "small amount of money" in the closing process. Fowler says that money was used to help current students.

Amherst County attorney Ellen Bowyer is calling the temporary injunction a partial success, but says she still plans to appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court.

Sweet Briar College issued a statement just a few minutes after the judge's ruling, saying "We are pleased with the judge's decision today. It was clear he carefully reviewed the law and evidence. We will certainly abide by the court's ruling as it applies to the use of funds. This ruling, however, allows us to continue to work closely with the Office of the Virginia Attorney General for an orderly and responsible wind down of operations. We recognize this is a difficult situation for everyone involved and we, too, mourn the loss of the College."
