FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) - One man died in an accident that caused officers to alternate lane closures on Booker T Washington Hwy at Hardy Rd Monday.

Virginia State Police said it happened around 1:20 p.m. on Rt. 122 and Rt. 636 in Franklin Co. Two vehicles, a Hyundai Sonata and a Dodge Ram, were involved in the accident.

The 2013 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 29-year-old Tiffany McGuire of Hardy, made a left turn from northbound Route 122 onto Route 636 when it was hit by a southbound 2011 Dodge Ram driven by 32-year-old Charles Hunt of Hardy.

McGuire's passenger, 64-year-old Elmer Cecil Johnson Jr of Bedford, died at the scene. Both were wearing their seat belts. Hunt was not injured in the accident. 

Charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

According to VDOT's 511Virginia.org website, officers were alternating closures on the north and south lanes of VA-122 (Booker T Washington Hwy) near Hardy Road for several hours as a result of the accident.
