Fire heavily damages Danville Dairy Queen

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Fire Marshals' Office is investigating the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a local Dairy Queen in Danville.

Crews were called to 2909 Riverside Drive at 12:49 a.m. Thursday, July 9 for reports of a fire.

Upon arrival, they saw heavy smoke coming from the roof of the commercial building. Firefighters found no one inside.

Crews were able to locate the fire above a cooler/freezer unit but were unable to knock down the flames.

Crews evacuated the building at 1:10 a.m. as fire vented through the roof.

The Danville Fire Department says the fire was knocked down and determined to be under control at 2:33 a.m. Thursday. The building sustained heavy smoke, heat, fire and water damage.

East bound lanes of Riverside Drive at Mount Cross Road were blocked and traffic was detoured during the incident, but are now open.

The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, one support unit and one fire marshal. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Danville Electric Department and Danville Water and Gas Department assisted on scene. Sixteen fire personnel were on the scene for over three hours.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
