DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - God's Pit Crew is usually waiting and prepared when Mother Nature strikes, but right now the Danville warehouse is nearly empty of blessing buckets.

A three week drive kicked off in Danville and as usual folks in our area proved to be giving. These donations are a start toward reaching a goal of filling 5,000 buckets by the end of the month.

Randy Johnson is the founder of God's Pit Crew.

While no one knows who the next victims could be, Johnson knows firsthand this will bring a smile.

"If you can imagine losing everything you have, your entire home, all of your belongings, I mean down to your toothbrush and you're left in a shelter on a cot, in a school gymnasium or a shelter somewhere," said  Randy Johnson.

"This plastic bucket filled with those supplies becomes worth its weight in gold to an individual who's affected and we've got many calls and word back just how much it meant to people who've received them."

The drives continue all across southwest and central Virginia this weekend and the following.
