Hawkins-Graves is a heavy and light construction equipment rental, sales, and service dealership.

According to the Campbell County Department Public Safety Director, Tracy Fairchild, the accident happened at 1:52 p.m. The Lyn-Dan Heights Volunteer Fire Department and the Campbell County Public Safety Career EMS staff responded to the 911 call. Before emergency personnel arrived, employees of Hawkins-Graves were able to free the man from the heavy machinery and begin CPR.

The man was taken to Lynchburg General Emergency Department, but did not survive. No one else was injured.

Fairchild stated:

"While we respond to all calls for service with the utmost urgency and care for those involved, the 911 calls involving local youth are often the most difficult emotionally for emergency responders. We live in a close knit and caring community and many times volunteers and staff members are not just responding as trained professionals, but also as concerned friends and neighbors. I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and commend our local volunteers and staff for not only serving, but doing so with such commitment and compassion."
