Lexington community celebrates Lee Jackson day

LEXINGTON (WSLS 10) - Dozens of people came to downtown Lexington Friday morning to commemorate the state holiday Lee Jackson day.

The Virginia Flaggers said people traveled from as far as Texas to remember Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. Both men spent the final years of their lives in Lexington.

Susan Hathway, the Organizer of the Virginia Flaggers said, "Every year we come up to Lexington to celebrate that day because to us there's no more relevant place then the place that both Lee and Jackson are buried."

Several ceremonies are planned for tomorrow, including a wreath laying and military salute at 10:30 a.m. at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The Lee Jackson parade will follow at 11:15 a.m. and a memorial service at Lauderdale ARP church will be held at noon.
