BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Planned Parenthood will close its Blacksburg Health Clinic at the end of March.

The decision is part of a consolidation plan with the Roanoke clinic.

The Roanoke clinic will begin offering extended hours to accommodate the additional patients.

Leaders said when the Blacksburg clinic formed more than 30 years ago, it was the only trusted women's healthcare provider in the area. In recent years, Virginia Tech has extended student services to meet some of these needs, and the Community Health Center of the New River Valley now provides little to no cost women's health services in Montgomery and Giles counties.

Planned Parenthood will still offer sex education and advocacy work in the Blacksburg area after the clinic closes.
