Employee burned in accident at Danville Goodyear plant

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Less than a week after one man died at the plant, another man was burned.

At about 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, an associate was injured at the plant, according to Goodyear.

A pipe fitter received a steam burn through his clothes while working, according to the employee's union rep.

After being seen at the plant's on-site hospital, the associate decided to drive home and visit a local medical provider later that day and for a follow-up visit Monday, according to Goodyear.

The union rep said that when the employee returned to work on Monday, his burn was hurting considerably more than during the weekend, so he went to the hospital was treated in the ER. The union rep said it's his understanding that the employee received both first and second-degree burns.

The local union office, based in Providence, NC, is investigating, which is standard operating procedure. No one from the union's headquarters in Pittsburgh is being sent down to investigate.

Goodyear says it is also investigating the cause of the incident.

The union rep said he didn't know if the employee has been able to return to work since receiving treatment at the hospital on Monday.
