ROANOKE (WSLS 10) -Comic book fans rejoice, May 7th is free comic book day!

Retailers all over the country observe the holiday the first Saturday in May.

It all started in 2001 when a comic book retailer in Califorinia saw the success of comic-based movies and decided to expose moviegoers to the stories and illustrations that inspired the movies.

The first free comic book day was held on the opening weekend of Spiderman in 2002.

Comic book shops and dealers across the region including B&D comics will be offering a free comic book to customers.
