Martinsville PD cracking down on seat belt violations
MARTINSVILLE (WSLS10) - The Martinsville Police Department is stepping up its effort to catch people not wearing their seat belts.
This is something the department does every year towards the end of May thanks to a grant from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
The grant is used to pay officers to come in on their days off and patrol traffic.
Cpt. Robert Fincher says seat belt use is going up in the city.
"Fortunately, in the city we're showing an increase each year. It's a slight increase each year, but it is a noticeable increase each year. We're really excited about that fact. We're hoping it will continue," Cpt. Fincher explained.
The increased patrols will last until mid-June.
