Donald Trump and Mike Pence scheduled to hold town hall in Roanoke

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) –Presidential candidate Donald Trump and his vice presidential running mate Mike Pence will bring their campaign to Roanoke Monday.

Virginia is a battleground state and can play a key role in this year's presidential election.

The scheduled stop comes in the wake of Hillary Clinton choosing Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate.

Trump and Pence will hold a town hall in the star city. It will be at Hotel Roanoke at 3 p.m in the Roanoke Ballroom.  Doors open for the event at 1 p.m.

WSLS 10 political analyst Dr. Ed Lynch says Trumps appearance in the Roanoke Valley proves that the political fight for the Commonwealth is still very much alive.

"This is a sign that Donald Trump is not going to give up on Virginia in the upcoming election," Lynch said."Coming to Virginia and Southwest Virginia puts him close to West Virginia, and the discussion surrounding the coal industry is bound to come up in this town hall meeting on Monday."

WSLS 10 will broadcast the event and livestream it on our website wsls.com.

Following the event both Trump and Pence will head to Winston-Salem North Carolina for a rally that night.
