ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Roanoke police have released the identity of the officer found dead inside the police department building on Wednesday night.
Roanoke police Officer Najee Anthony Tynes, 29, of Roanoke, was found dead at 6:29 p.m. on Wednesday inside a restroom in the police department from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Tynes had worked for the department since August 30, 2011.
An internal review of the circumstances is currently being conducted.
Peer support personnel are available to assist officers, staff, and dispatchers at the E-911 center Wednesday night and into Thursday. Employees also have options through the City of Roanoke's Employee Assistance Program.
Badges will be shrouded through sundown on the day of burial. Arrangements are pending.
