Sexual assault charges dropped against former Roanoke firefighter

BOTETOURT COUNTY (WSLS 10) - All charges against former Roanoke firefighter David Bocock have been dropped, according to Botetourt County Commonwealth's Attorney Joel Branscom.

The charges stemmed from allegations about Bocock's relationship with an 11-year-old girl in 2012.

The Botetourt County Sheriff's Office began an investigation on the complaint first made in February 2016.

In March 2016, a grand jury returned indictments; however, after finding recent evidence, the Branscom's office has concluded that the case cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Branscom said that the complainant, who maintains she was assaulted in 2012, and her family independently made the decision not to proceed.

The complainant suffers from a medical condition triggered by stress and it's her and her family's wish that she not be subjected to the stress of a trial given the new evidence, according to the Branscom.
