Averett students selling 'Caring for Carrie' shirts to raise ovarian cancer awareness

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - A group of Averett University students is carrying on a tradition of supporting ovarian cancer in honor of a professor.

For the third year in a row, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee is selling "Caring For Carrie" T-shirts and hats.

The SAAC was selling them in the student center on Friday and will also sell them during the men's basketball game on Saturday.

The proceeds will go to the Jimmy V Cancer Research Foundation.

Athletic Training Director Carrie Hendricks has beaten ovarian cancer twice, so the students decided to show their support for her by supporting cancer research.

"They have raised so much money. The last two years, we've been the top fundraiser for Team V for the Jimmy V foundation over the amount of money that they've raised. So, it has been incredible," said Hendricks.

"Caring For Carrie" events have raised more than $2,500 since 2015.

Anyone interested in purchasing shirts or hats but cannot make it to Saturday's game can contact Emma Olsson at eeolsson@averett.edu.
