Hokie Stone leggings connect VT Relay students

Creator wants leggings to connect students from 400 teams participating in Relay

BLACKSBURG – One of the biggest collegiate Relay for Life events in the nation is just a few days away, as student at Virginia Tech make the final preparations ahead of Friday's event.

This year, you could see something new during the Virginia Tech Relay for Life event-- Hokie Stone leggings.

The leggings are modeled after one of the most recognizable aspects of the Virginia Tech campus, the limestone that's seen on the exterior of every building from Lane Stadium and Newman Library to Burruss Hall and the on-campus dorms.

Ty Morris created the leggings. He says he got the idea after a football game-- he saw everyone wearing jerseys and T-shirts with the Hokie Stone patern on them, and decided there needed to be more options.

Now, he's incorporating those leggins into the Blacksburg community for a good cause. A portion of the profit from each pair sold will go back to Virginia Tech Relay for Life. He hopes the leggings will be a way to connect the more than 5,000 students on 405 separate teams taking part in Relay this weekend.

"The goal is to get them incorporated into Relay for Life to show that even though everyone has their different teams, everyone can wear the leggings with their respective shirts," explains Morris. "It's showing that Hokie Nation is all united to find a cure."
