Scrap metal catches fire at Danville recycling plant

Fire ruled accidental

DANVILLE, Va. – Multiple fire departments responded to a recycling plant fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to a release from the Danville Fire Department, firefighters responded just after 12:30 to AMA Recycling, located at 1692 Halifax Road.

Heavy smoke and flames were visible in the back of the recycling yard.

The fire was contained to the scrap receiving area and was under control within 20 minutes, according to the release.

Water runoff was contained in a retaining pond.

"There was no dollar loss due to the materials involved," the release stated.

The fire was ruled accidental.

The Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department and Danville Life Saving Crew also responded to the fire.
