Roanoke Planning Commission approves redeveloping Rodeway Inn

ROANOKE,Va.

A new hotel is coming to the Star City.

On Monday, the Roanoke Planning Commission approved redeveloping the Rodeway Inn.

The hotel, which is located on the corner of Orange Avenue and Williamson Road, will be turned into a new Holiday Inn Express.

City leaders hope that, since the hotel is close to downtown and the Berglund Center, it will help boost local tourism.

Damini Patel, a developer for the remodeling of the Rodeway Inn, said that the community's request for additional meeting rooms has been addressed.

“We have owned the Rodeway Hotel for about eight years now,” said Patel. “And we just want to develop it and to have a brighter future for that block and the city.”

Some local residents attended the meeting to state their concerns.

“As an advocate for people with disabilities, I want to make sure that this project is fully accessible,” said resident Steve Grammar.

Developers will now work on building approval plans for the city to review.
