Thousands of Appalachian Power customers lose power as snow continues to fall

Some are waking up to a power outage as snow continues to fall throughout Southwest Virginia.Ā 

The largest outage in our area is affecting Giles County, where over 5,500 Appalachian Power customers at one point lost electricity. As of 1:15 p.m., that number is down to 2,877. This outage is weather-related and crews are assessing the situation. There is no estimate yet for when power may be restored.Ā

There is also an outage in Pulaski County that at one point affected about 2,900 customers. As of 1:15 p.m., that number is down to 1,374. Crews are assessing the outage now and do not yet have an estimate for restoration.Ā 

Dominion Energy is reporting that fewer than 20 customers in Southside are without power.Ā
