Three deputies who shot murder suspect will not face charges, suspect's death ruled suicide

According to the Amherst County Sheriff's Office, the death of 40-year-old murder suspect Anthony Hutchinson has been ruled a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

UPDATE: The medical examiner had ruled Hutchinson‘s death a suicide from self inflicted gunshot wound.

Three deputies involved in an August shooting will not be facing charges, according to the Amherst County Sheriff's Office. 

The announcement, made on Facebook Thursday, comes after an investigation by Virginia State Police and the Amherst County Commonwealth's Attorney. 

According to the sheriff's office, the investigation concluded that the deputies involved reacted with "appropriate force" when murder suspect, 40-year-old Anthony Hutchinson, opened fire on the deputies at a traffic stop. 

The deputies are now released from administrative duties, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect in an officer-involved shooting in Amherst County, 40-year-old Anthony Makai Hutchinson of Waynesboro, VA.,  is dead, according to the county's Sheriff's Office.

A deputy was shot in the leg when the suspect and law enforcement exchanged gunfire.

He's expected to be released from the hospital Sunday.

The shooting happened after deputies attempted to pull the suspect over; he lost control of the car and crashed near Spencer Mountain Road along Route 29 Southbound.

They say he was driving a car wanted in Nelson County.

The Virginia State Police and the Amherst County Sheriff's Office are investigating.

The Amherst Sheriff's Office is asking drivers to avoid the area, as Route 29 is closed near Spencer Mountain Road.

Deputies are currently on scene with other agencies.
