What’s News Today: COVID-19 vaccines, return to campus

Here’s a look at some of the stories we’ll be following today as they make headlines across the country and Southwest Virginia.

More faculty and staff in Montgomery County will receive the COVID-19 vaccine today. As a result, all elementary schools will be closed for students today. They should complete an inclement weather day assignment in Google Classroom.

People in Giles County over the age of 75 can get a COVID vaccination at a drive-up clinic today. You must be pre-registered in order to get a vaccine.

Students living on campus at Liberty University will return to campus today. This will allow for students to quarantine on campus before the start of in-person instruction on Jan. 25.

The man accused of stealing a car after a deadly shooting at a busy shopping center will be in court today in Salem for a preliminary hearing. Zane Christian is accused of shooting Rico Turner in Salem and then carjacking near Virginia Tech’s campus. Police say he fled to West Virginia, where he was arrested.
