86-year-old woman dies, another woman hospitalized after Bedford County crash

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va.UPDATE - 4:12 p.m.

An 86-year-old Bedford County woman is dead after a crash Friday morning in the Big Island area of the county.

The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. on Route 602, just west of Hawthorn Road, when a 2013 Kia Soul going eastbound ran off a small bridge and hit a tree, according to Virginia State Police.

Both the driver and passenger were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital.

While there, the passenger, 86-year-old Christine Bell Goff, of Big Island, died.

The driver, Edna Goff, remains hospitalized.

Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.


UPDATE

Two elderly women are hospitalized after their vehicle went off a bridge in Bedford County this morning, police said.

Authorities said the crash happened at about 9:01 a.m. on Hunting Creek Road.

The two women were transported to Lynchburg General with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Crews are on the scene of a car that crashed into a creek in Bedford County, according to dispatch.

Authorities said the accident was off of Hunting Creek Road in Big Island. Two people are trapped inside the vehicle, according to Forest Volunteer Fire Department.
