The 21st annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival set to return to Green Hill Park on Saturday

New to the event this year is the Kite Showcase & Contest

ROANOKE, Va. – The 21st annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival is set to return to Green Hill Park on Saturday, April 16.

You and your family can enjoy a day full of kite flying, kite demonstrations, a kite contest and several other activities.

This free event will also have food trucks, craft tables and vendors.

The Richmond Air Force Kite Club will be doing kite demonstrations for everyone who attends. There will also be free kite decorating and give-a-way items.

“It is just another way to start spring. It is going to be wonderful. People can come out, they can enjoy everything, and bring family and friends,” said Special Events and Tourism Coordinator for Roanoke County Parks and Rec., Wendi Schultz. “It is going to be a glorious day in the park.”

New to the event this year is the Kite Showcase & Contest. The contest will include a 50-yard dash, Oldest and Youngest Flyer, Most Unusual Kite and Biggest and Smallest Kite.

“There are all kinds of different categories for folks. We have fabulous prizes if folks choose to enter,” said Schultz.

The festival starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.
