Here are the roads you should avoid during the Blue Ridge Marathon this weekend

ROANOKE, Va.America’s Toughest Road Marathon is set to return to the Star City on Saturday!

With that in mind, there will be some roads that drivers will want to avoid while in downtown Roanoke this weekend.

Here’s a list of roads that will be closed throughout Roanoke during the Blue Ridge Marathon:

Saturday - April 16, 2022

5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Jefferson Street will be closed from Franklin Rd. to Elm Ave
  • Bullitt Avenue eastbound lane from 1st St to Jefferson St closed

5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Franklin Road closed from 2nd St to Jefferson St.

5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

  • Jefferson Street closed from Church Ave to Franklin Rd.
  • Franklin Road closed from Jefferson St to Williamson Rd.

7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • Mill Mountain Parkway closed
  • Roanoke Mountain Loop Road closed

7 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

  • Laurel Street Southbound lane closed from Riverland Road to Walnut Avenue
  • Ivy Street Northbound lane closed from Camilla to Walnut Avenue
  • Camilla Street Eastbound lane closed from Ivy Street to Sylvan Avenue

7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

  • Jefferson Street closed from Elm to Walnut Ave

7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • JB Fishburn Parkway closed (the road up to Star)

8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Wiley Drive closed (located next to Rivers Edge Sports Complex)

8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Peakwood Drive closed (The “Uphill” Lane, entire length)
  • West Ridge Road closed (The “Downhill” Lane, Peakwood Dr. to Rosalind Ave)

Before or at 8:30 a.m.

  • Walnut Avenue closed from Jefferson to JB Fishburn Parkway
    • All lanes closed from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
    • Westbound lanes open at 8:30 a.m.
    • Eastbound lanes from Hamilton Terrace to JB Fishburn Parkway open at 8:30 a.m.
    • Eastbound Walnut Avenue Bridge opens at approximately 10 a.m.

9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Luck Avenue closed from 6th Street to 1st Street eastbound
  • Winchester Ave, Eastbound lane, closed from Main St to 8th St
  • Wasena Ave closed from Memorial Ave to 12th St
  • 12th St closed from Wasena Ave to Winchester Ave
  • 8th St Southbound closed from Day to Elm
  • Alleys between Elm and Luck closed

Sunday - April 17, 2022

7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • Wiley Drive closed

In addition, there will also be several areas marked as No Parking Zones during the entire marathon, which include:

  • Avenham Avenue (Northbound side from Clydesdale to Broadway)
  • S. Jefferson Street (Southbound side from 24th Street to McClanahan)
  • Highland Avenue (Westbound side from Jefferson to Ferdinand)
  • Ferdinand Avenue (Eastbound side from Highland to Main St)
  • Walnut Avenue (Eastbound side from Belleview Ave to Sylvan Rd)
  • Several areas downtown
