Lady Junior Dawgs gearing up for upcoming hockey season

The Roanoke Valley Youth Hockey Association is looking to have four all girls teams

ROANOKE, Va. – The Roanoke Valley Youth Hockey Association is gearing up for the Lady Junior Dawgs’ hockey season.

For the first time, it will be fielding four teams consisting of only girls.

One is for beginners, then there’s one for those aged 8 and under, another for those 12 and under, and one last one for those 19 and under.

Ice hockey is growing in popularity among girls and the organization is excited to create a league where all girls feel welcome and are encouraged to grow.

“Last year we did a few tournaments and that was about it. This year it will be full-blown, we’ll be in a conference, real practices, all that kind of stuff,” said Ben Cook, one of the assistant coaches.

Tryouts will be held for the 10U/12U team on May 7 and 8 at Lancerlot Sports Complex in Vinton located at 1110 Vinyard Road.
