Man arrested, charged in connection with Wythe County murder

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. – A man is behind bars and has been charged with murder after a man was found dead in Wythe County Friday, according to the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said around 3:47 a.m., first responders received a call of a fire at 403 Saint Paul Church Road in the Rural Retreat community.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found a vehicle on fire and a man dead inside the vehicle, according to deputies.
After conducting interviews and collecting evidence, deputies say they identified the suspect as 33-year-old Calvin Duncan II.
Deputies said at 7:58 a.m., Duncan was located on Saint Paul Church Road, and was taken into custody without incident.
Duncan was charged with the following:
First-degree murder
Arson
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
Dispose of a dead body on private property
Duncan will be held without bond, deputies said.
Authorities said the victim’s body will be taken to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for identification.
The Sheriff’s Office said this remains an ongoing investigation, and more charges could be pending.
