How this Roanoke teacher won a Virginia-themed getaway

She also won a donation of $2,500 for school supplies

ROANOKE, Va. – Thousands of Virginia educators received a thank you note from Virginia Lottery’s “Thank a Teacher” campaign, but one lucky teacher received much more — right here at home.

Blaire Flowers, a kindergarten teacher in Roanoke, won a Virginia-themed vacation along with a donation to the school of $2,500 for supplies.

“I was in complete shock, it definitely was the last thing I was expecting,” said Flowers.

“Public school teachers are the heart of our education system. They are mentors, they are leaders, and at Virginia Lottery we find any and every opportunity to celebrate them throughout the year,” said Kelly Gee, executive director of Virginia Lottery.

Flowers was one of nearly 7,000 submissions.
