Back to school safety and security: Martinsville City Public Schools

10 News investigates the measures school districts are taking to protect staff and students

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Martinsville City Public Schools serves about 1,800 students and has two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.

The district spends $250,000 on security upgrades, including:

  • Adding access control to all classroom doors in two buildings
  • Vape detectors
  • Upgrading camera systems on school buses
  • Adding a new security vestibule
