Roanoke preps for Independence Day celebration

ROANOKE, Va. – Preparations are already underway for the Star City’s Fourth of July celebration.

Roanoke City will hold the Freedom Festival at River’s Edge Park on July 5.

It starts at 5 p.m. and fireworks light up the sky at 9:30 p.m.

There will be family-friendly activities and live music at the event, followed by a 15-minute fireworks display.

Organizers said they’re excited to bring the community together for the holiday.

“All different neighborhoods, all different parts of Roanoke will come and enjoy them all together,” Tim Pohlad-Thomas with Roanoke city Parks and Recreation said. “This is really just a way to bring as many people in the city together.”

Admission is free, with food and beverages available for purchase.
