SALEM, Va. – Mama Crockett’s Donuts is a business that was so wildly popular, it made people whip their heads around and make U-turns just to stop and grab a box of donuts.
The donuts are made fresh in the truck with apple cider from a local orchard mixed in with the batter. The donuts are then powdered with cinnamon before being served hot and fresh to eager customers.
However, after making it through the COVID-19 pandemic relatively unscathed, the business closed down its brick-and-mortar shop alongside its four food trucks.
“Once we kind of got through to the other side, I tried to take on a few more things,” Owner F.W. Willis said. “It was just the straw that broke the camel’s back, and it kind of popped.”
During the time it was closed, Willis heard from the community. While they were understanding as to why he closed the shop down, they still asked the same question: When was he coming back?
As of last month, Mama Crockett’s Cider Donuts is back in business, slinging donuts to their hungry and happy customers.
“I took enough time to let things settle, and I’d like to say that I snatched a couple marbles back from the universe because they were all out there,” Willis said.
