CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The New River Valley saw a bit of everything as winter weather hit the area. The snow started early and it didn’t let up all day.
Many folks throughout the region woke up to snow powdering the ground, but as the day went on, the light, fluffy snow slowly evolved into more slush and ice than snow.
On the roads, there were not nearly as many people out.
Main roads throughout the NRV saw constant crews out plowing.
Some folks said the roads aren’t bad for the most part except for a few, and expect them to get worse.
“[It’s] been doing pretty good, secondaries are little rough,” said Brad Price at a local gas station.
“Oh yeah, we’ve been working in it all day,” said Aiden Boyd, another at the gas station. “Seen a few crashes, we’ve been trying to avoid the interstate.”
They said their keys to staying safe are to go slow, keep a big distance between you and other cars, and be patient.
