GILES CO., Va. – Four members of the Rich Creek Town Council and the Mayor have resigned, according to a spokesperson and documents obtained by 10 News.

A petition has also been filed with the Circuit Court requesting that interim council members be appointed to fill the vacancies and a writ for special election, officials say.

The four members, Mark Clemons, M. Darlene French, Dorsey Bradley and Stuart Helm have all resigned. Anne Chambers, who was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Roger Jones as the Mayor of the town, also resigned effective Aug. 18.

Reasons for the resignations were not given, and the Town of Rich Creek now has vacancies on four of its six town council seats. Effective Aug. 31, they will have five vacancies.

Three council seats, including the mayor, are on the November ballot and will not require a special election. The remaining two seats expire at the end of 2027 and will require a special election in November 2026.

An official told 10 News that the Court will appoint persons to fill the vacancies until the respective general or special election is held for each seat.

Candidates interested in appointment to vacancies should provide a letter of interest and any other pertinent information to the Giles County Circuit Court Clerk's Office.
