More than 700 Roanoke Valley students to come together for the Special Olympics Big Feet Meet

ROANOKE, Va. – More than 700 students from 35 schools across the Roanoke Valley will come together Tuesday morning for the Special Olympics Big Feet Meet at William Fleming High School.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring track and field activities like running, walking, and the softball throw. The overall goal is to celebrate inclusion and bring schools together.

“The word for this season is #YOUnified,” Special Olympics Virginia said in a press release. “We can’t BE UNIFIED without YOU! Spectators are encouraged to attend, cheer, and witness inclusion in action.”

Approximately 200 William Fleming students will help host, with an opening ceremony and the lighting of the Flame of Hope scheduled for 11 a.m.

The Big Feet Meet is part of Special Olympics Virginia’s Unified Champion Schools program, which works to promote respect, dignity and advocacy for people with disabilities through sports. William Fleming students have been supporting the event since 2011.
