On this day in 1966, the Roanoke family of Federal District Attorney Tom Mason looked back on a special moment with a presidential connection.
Years earlier, during a visit with then-Senator John F. Kennedy, their two young daughters were admiring a display of Japanese dolls, a gift to JFK from a Japanese language translator.
Kennedy noticed and gave the dolls to the girls!
By 1966, the dolls had become a family treasure - and a memory they held onto nearly 10 years later.
