Man charged after alleged online threats against Jefferson Forest High School

Barlow has been charged with a Class 6 felony for electronic threats

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – A man has been taken into custody and charged after allegedly making online threats against Jefferson Forest High School, according to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office was alerted by a resident in South Carolina who said they saw a disturbing comment on YouTube referencing threats to students at Jefferson Forest High School on April 1.

After multiple IP searches and investigative efforts, authorities identified the suspect as Brian Scott Barlow, 42, of Lynchburg.

Barlow was located and taken into custody. He was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail and charged with a Class 6 felony: threats by electronic communication to kill or discharge a firearm on school property. Barlow is being held without bond.

The Bedford County school administration was notified. Authorities said there is no active threat to any student at this time.
